Implicit/Personal Bias

Personal biases are formed from generalizations that have unconsciously accumulated throughout a lifetime and therefore cause an individual to view the world through a specific lens that influences their decisions and actions. Becoming aware of our own personal biases will surely contribute to a healthier understanding of our own selves so that we can more fully show up for others.

Power and Privilege

Implicit/Personal Bias

Within today's societal standards and ideologies, a level of privilege exists within the white individual that often goes unacknowledged. As youth of different races are placed into homes that may not match their own skin tones or ethnicities, it is important to understand racial awareness. It will be an essential factor to consider within the process of making a child feel comfortable within their living environment. This training will dig deeper into this topic.

Classism

image318

This training will discuss the ins and outs of classism; when individuals are treated differently based on their social status. In situations where youth that face homelessness are brought into economically stable households, there can often be many unexpected emotions as they process and get used to a new environment.

This training is aimed to identify and discuss the ways in which adults can impede upon youth's lives from a place of good intention and care. We will explore the ways in which youth must take responsibility for their lives, and consider some of the ways that adults can be a healthy support system for them.

We believe that communication is central to the success of any relationship. In this training, we will focus on Non-Violent Communication (a method of communicating that is adopted from Ghandi's movement of non-violence and doing no harm) as a means to resolve conflicts and practice healthy communication between the youth and the family. Communication based on honesty and empathy. It helps us understand the needs and values that we all have in common.
